Update

2014-09-13 19.48.57

Janet, Mum, Grandy (JMG) is very comfortable in a hospital bed in Tessa’s house.

As some of you know she has decided to forgo chemotherapy.

The final scans before she left the hospital showed that her liver was 95% taken over by tumors.

The oncologists we consulted said that chemo, or other attempts at therapy, would only prolong the inevitable for a short time, and even if they did provide some diminution of the tumors, would leave her sick, miserable, and much weaker for the effort.

She pointedly talked about the suffering of old friends, and her mother, who suffered miserable ends due to radical intervention.

She is no pain, and is enjoying having the family around her.  Her good friends Paul and Lonnie Hinchey, and Betsy Stephens, have come to visit, and we had a very nice dinner with them.  Lot’s of Bob Marley and good wine.  No medical marijuana…. yet.

Coming Home

We arrived at the hospital this morning and found Janet, Mum, Grandy — henceforth JMG — jogging the halls.  Well OK she had her two physical therapists (both named Caitlin, or C-squared) helping her, and was using a walker.  But she was up and about and looking good.  She returned to her suite and held court from her chair.

This afternoon hospice delivered all we will need to care for her at Tessa’s house.   We will pick her up tomorrow morning and make her very comfortable here.  Jen has decorated with blue irises.

The hospice people are very nice, and have an inpatient facility in the hills, with nice views of the valley, in case she is overwhelmed being here.

But we think she will enjoy being among her peeps, and little Kiran is a bubbling soup of joy and positive energy.

Thanks again for all your supporting words and good thoughts.
